Biography of David Asano


David Asano received the B.A.Sc. degree (with honours) from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and the M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, all in Electrical Engineering. He was involved in Northern Telecom's Network Engineering Program as an Assistant Coordinator in 1990 and 1991 and as a lecturer from 1990 to 1993. From 1990 to 1992 he managed the Communications Group computer system at the University of Toronto. He was a teaching assistant at the University of Toronto from 1988 to 1994.

He was an STA Fellow at the Communications Research Laboratory of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan from October 1994 until September 1996. During that time, he conducted joint research with Kohno Laboratory at Yokohama National University in Yokohama, Japan.

In October 1996, he became a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering , Faculty of Engineering at Shinshu University located in Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture , Japan, where he is currently a Professor.
Since 2001, he has also been a part-time lecturer at the Nagano National College of Technology.

His current research topics include coding and modulation techniques, spread spectrum, sensor networks, and information systems.

Dr. Asano is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers of Japan (IEICE).
